-
- Dress for the weather. Hiking boots are required. We strongly suggest a rain jacket, hat, and gloves.
- Bring a small backpack and water bottle.
In your confirmation email, we will send you a full packing list.
- An SUV, AWD, and/or high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended for navigating the last 3 miles of unpaved forest roads during wet and sometimes snowy conditions in November. Consider carpooling with others upon arrival to the rendevous point in downtown Randle, WA.
- Leave Fido, cigarettes, drugs, and booze at home – they’re not invited to this shroom party!
- Download offline maps and a GPS tracking app (e.g. Strava, Gaia, AllTrails) beforehand.
- Go before you go and bring supplies – there are no restrooms at the trailhead and during the hunt.
- Mushrooms love rain, and we do too! Our tours operate light rain or shine.
- 80% of guests elect to add an extra hour of guided foraging after lunch. This is $49/person at the time of booking or $59 day-of, pending availability.
- Gratuities are not required, but they sure do make our day!
- We’re not politicians, so we can’t guarantee when, where, or how many mushrooms you’ll find. But with a 95% success rate, we’re pretty darn good at stacking the deck in your favor. On these specialized hunts, it is not uncommon for guests to go home with a few pounds, so make room in that freezer!
- If you are looking for more educational focus (e.g. how to identify different species, environmental variations, seasons), please consider the Seattle Mushroom Foraging 101 experience.
- On this hunt, you will likely also find a few other varieties such as lobster mushrooms, coral, and cauliflower mushrooms.
- For those who have already done an introductory foraging class with us, you can elect to skip the intro portion and get a 20-minute jump start in the woods for extra foraging time, pending guide availability.
- We can accommodate up to 16 guests per time slot. Book your private event directly using the calendar above!
- Interested in a different time slot or date? Have more than 16 guests? Contact Us today and check out our Private Events page.
We can accomodate most restrictions including: vegetarian, seafood or shellfish allergy, and gluten-free.
We cannot accomodate last minute changes given the complexity and limitiations of being in the great outdoors. Thank you in advance for your flexibility and understanding!
In addition to chanterelles, you will likely find lobsters, boletes, coral, and cauliflower mushrooms.
Unfortunately, we can’t control Mother Nature. Our guides also work hard to ensure that everyone goes home with a happy bounty, regardless of your skill level and speed.
We meet in downtown Randle, WA. This is 110 miles from downtown Seattle, just south of Mount Rainier. This is approximately a 2-hour drive without traffic or pitstops.
Plan for a buffer of 15-30 minutes to allow for bathroom breaks, unexpected traffic, and road closures. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we will not be able to wait for you. We will then text you the coordinates and it will be your responsibility to meet up with the group there. Sorry, we can’t honor refunds for guests who are late, lost, or no-shows.
You will be met by a Guide and then we will all caravan together to the final foraging location (~20-25 minute drive). We strongly recommend driving or carpooling with an SUV, AWD, and/or high clearance vehile to safely navigate the last 2-3 miles of unpaved forest roads.
If there is a change of venue, we will email you with an alternate meeting location in Packwood, WA (only a 16-minute drive from Randle, WA).
- We get it, life happens. We offer cancellation insurance for $10/ticket at time of purchase. This enables you to cancel up to 72 hours prior to your event. Otherwise sales are final, so if you can’t make it, feel free to send someone else in your place. Our events are super popular so make sure to book early to avoid FOMO!
A certain level of physical fitness and stamina is recommended to fully enjoy this experience.
You will be on your feet for up to 3 hours, hiking up and down hills (sometimes steep ones), over and around fallen logs, and through trees and underbrush. You will be crouching down and standing up frequently as you revel in your mushroom finds!
You will be carrying a small backpack with water and snacks along with a mess bag filled with a growing quantity of mushrooms. We have hiking sticks available, but recommend that you bring a hiking pole if you have one.
We do our best to group guests with similar fitness levels together to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible.
Sorry, no restrooms at the trailhead. Make sure to take care of business beforehand or bring your own supplies if you need to go au naturel!
We take physical safety seriously and provide gear and guidance for wayfinding and wildlife management.
At the beginning of the experience, we review safety protocols and expectations. We also provide each guest with a high visibility vest or hate, walkie talkie, and whistle. Each guide is in communication with one another with long range walkie talkies. We also carry a Garmin inReach Mini 2 for every hunt in case of emergencies. Every Guide carries a first aid kit, extra snacks, and water.
Please download and practice using a GPS-tracking app like Gaia, AllTrails, or Strava prior to your hunt.
In advance of your trip, please also download offline maps that cover navigating to and from your start and end locations and all of Randle and Packwood, WA. There will be intermittent cell service during your drive to the meet up point and no service once we are at the foraging location.
Please notify caregivers that you will not be reachable.
This experience requires a certain degree of comfort being outdoors navigating in the woods off-trail. Our Guide to guest ratio is a max of 1:8, so feel free to stay extra close to your Guide for added comfort.
